3 Exhortations

The writer of Hebrews is clearly trying to encourage the believers to hold fast to their faith in hard times.  Because of their circumstances they are reverting back to old ways and the writer compares the old ways with the new, that is, Jesus and the impact on our faith He has.

After comparing the old covenant with the new covenant the writer encourages the believers with three exhortations.

Hebrews 10 vs 19 - 25

(19) Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus,
(20) by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh,
(21) and since we have a great priest over the house of God,
  1. (22) let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
  2. (23) Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.
  3. (24) And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works
(25) not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

Times are definitely changing, at a fast pace.  Gone are the days where you can look with confidence around you and assume you are safe, physically, morally, emotionally, and spiritually.  We have to be wise, awake, fully armed with God's armour.

I encourage you today to dig deeper into God's word, so that you will not be fooled and practice the 3 exhortations above.  Let us lead with the love of the Lord and not fear, anxiety and anger at what is going on around us!

God bless

  1. Such a good and timely word, Tracy. May we all draw near, hold fast, and encourage one another in God's Word so that we each remain steadfast in our faith. Blessings!

    1. Hi Joanne, thank you, I needed the reminder too :)
      God bless

  2. I grew up in a house that lived in fear, married a man who taught me to let go of that fear and a God who taught me to trust in Him - and the world is creating an environment of bigger danger than ever before. It's all about the drawing near and holding fast to Him - and loving our neighbors - saved and unsaved - regardless of the condition of the world. Praying for safety in your portion of the world, Tracy! Thank you for the reminder on how to live fearless in this upside down world!

    1. HI Mary-Leigh, don't you love how God provided you with just the right man to help you overcome much and lead you closer to Christ?! Our God is faithful and merciful. I am so grateful and so humbled that He cares ....
God bless, stay safe, and have a blessed weekend

  3. That's one of my favorite passages in the Bible. It is always applicable in one way or another. Drawing near to God has been a lifelong process, and will continue to be. The home is which I grew up didn't foster this type of warmth of drawing near. Our parents were always too busy, and so I had to learn to recognize the beckoning of God to step closer, to recognize that He wasn't scurrying off to do the next thing, but that He was pursuing me. Yes, me! When we draw near, we are empowered to hold fast and to stir one another toward love and good deeds. An encouraging post!

Are you Afraid?

We often read that scripture in 2 Chronicles when we feel helpless and in need of encouragement.  It says in 2 Chron 20 vs 17:   you will not need to fight in this battle, but stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem.  Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed. I read this chapter this morning as part of my quiet time and the verse that got me was vs 12 :  "O God, will You not execute judgement on them?  For we are powerless against this great horde that is coming against us.  We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You " .  It completely spoke into my heart about how I feel right now - powerless !  Powerless in the face of the worldwide virus issue.  Powerless in the face of the vaccination dilemma.  Just plain powerless.  Seriously, what can I do?  What can little me do?   But the verse does not stop there!  No!  It ends in faith!  Jehoshaphat heard ( vs 2 ) about these armies coming against him.  He was afraid ( vs 3(a) :  T

Don't let it happen!

I think the thing that has frustrated me the most over the past year and a bit, is how what is going on in the world is causing us to turn on one another!  It is why I have deleted my social media on and off!  It is why I have had moments of anxiety where before I had none!  It is why I find "lock-down mentality" comforting.  If I don't need to engage with people then I can stay relatively calm and unaffected!  Right?  No, very wrong! How can we be of any use to Jesus if we hide out in our homes?  How can I relate to people in such a way that they feel seen, heard, understood, if we don't make the effort to break loose from this "thing" that has been foisted on us? Truth be told I enjoyed lockdown.  I'm a homebody and I enjoyed not having the responsibility of going anywhere.  But, it is a responsibility !  Relating to people is required of us as Christians.  I have allowed this time to lock myself down too much.   Now that we have more freedom of movem

What Type of Christian am I?

Over the last year or so, I have been discovering a whole host of other pastors, teachers, of the Word.  They are not those well known, much quoted, very "with it" preachers.  Truth be told, over the last few years I have become very aggravated at being "entertained" in church, or a hyped up service or podcast delivery.  It just feels so.... shallow? Now, I am not going to criticize anyone here.  There are many TV preachers who helped me hold my life together back in the day.  But I am so hungry for deeper stuff.  For understanding the Word, not just reading it, and maybe have another person's opinion of what that Word means, thrust upon me.  I want to KNOW what it means, I want the KNOW the Word way better than I do, so that I will not be led astray.  So that I will not be fooled.  So that I will not be hoodwinked.   There are so many out there who are just a little off-centre.  And if you are honest with yourself, you will acknowledge that off-centre, however
